Violet Class

Class Teacher: Miss Abbie Sinden

Our PE lessons will take place on a Wednesday this term. Please ensure your child has the correct kit in school!

Please encourage your child to complete their homework independently and on time - it will help them in the transition to Secondary school!

Remember to sign your child's reading journal for them to be entered into the reading raffle.

This term we will continue to study 'Street Child' by Berlie Doherty. The book explores one child's life during the Victorian time period. We will continue to look at varying our sentence structures and using a wide range of punctuation including semi-colons and colons.

Towards the end of the term, we will explore the famous scene from 'Macbeth' of the three witches. This piece of writing will allow the children to explore how they can create atmosphere and tension as writers. We will end the term with a fun piece of writing based upon 'Wallace and Gromit: The Wrong Trousers'. This piece of writing provides an opportunity to use dialogue to advance action and describe a character further.

A new handwriting scheme has been adopted by the whole school so we will spend time learning how to join letters correctly and fluently. It is an expectation that all children in Key Stage 2 should be joining their writing so please encourage your children at home.

In our reading sessions, we will continue our reading lessons through'Destination Reader'. The children will be looking at learning behaviours and exploring all the different skills needed to be a good reader. During our sessions, we will be looking at a range of texts which link to the Victorians.

In our final weeks before the SATS, we will explore our final topic of 'Statistics'. During this unit, we will be looking at reading, interpreting and drawing line graphs and pie charts.

Once we have finished looking at statistics, we will spend our maths sessions revising for the SATS. During these sessions, we will go back over all the topics we have looked at this year.

Please continue to encourage your child to practise their times tables at home using times table rockstars and education city.
