Teacher: Mrs Bryant
We will start the term by exploring Jack and the beanstalk. We will retell the story, compare the characters and explore the setting. We will think carefully about the structure of the story, checking for sense and making our writing interesting and exciting for the reader. We will also be exploring a non-fiction text based on Penguins as a link into our topic.
We will continue to build upon our number skills this term, looking at the inverse relationship between addition and subtraction and multiplication and division. The children will continue their mental maths skills such as number bonds to 20, doubles and times tables. The children will also be exploring fractions, place value and counting. The children will continue to build upon their problem solving skills.
Please continue to explore your fluency skills of numbers bonds, doubles, halves and times table. Remember you can use hit the button or times-table rockstars for this
Learning Journey (cross curricular subjects)
Our Learning Journey this term is ‘Why don’t penguins need to fly?’ The children will be learning about the different continents and oceans of the world and we will explore how animals adapt to their environment and habitat.
Through science we will be looking closely at living things and their habitats and in computing we will be plotting the different habitats on a map.
Within DT we will be creating our own felt animal puppet. The children will design their puppet based on those we have explored through the habitats.
Please remember to hear your child read daily – it makes such a difference to your child’s reading.
A new homework sheet will be stuck into the children's homework books at the beginning of the term. Please ensure the books come into school each Monday. I love to see what the children are learning at home! Thank you to everyone who produced some fantastic and creative homework last term, the year 2 team were very impressed!
I will also be sending home some Maths and English homework sheets for children. These will include all the different skills that we have been learning this year. It would be great if your child would like to complete them.
