Year 6

Violet Class

Class Teacher: Miss Abbie Sinden

Our PE lessons will take place on a Wednesday this term. Please ensure your child has the correct kit in school!

Please encourage your child to complete their homework independently and on time - it will help them in the transition to Secondary school!

Remember to sign your child's reading journal for them to be entered into the Friday raffle.

This term we will be studying the book 'Skellig' by David Almond. We will look at a range of writing genres such as formal and informal letters, narratives and poems.

A new handwriting scheme has been adopted by the whole school so we will spend time learning how to join letters correctly and fluently. It is an expectation that all children in Key Stage 2 should be joining their writing so please encourage your children at home.

In our reading sessions, we will be looking at a range of texts and focusing on the key reading skills of; predict, clarify, summarise and question. This year, all children in the school are expected to read at least 5 times at home. Please remember to sign your child's reading journal if they read to themselves or if you hear them read.

During this term, we will be looking closely at place value as it is so important that all children have a secure understanding to support them in other areas of learning in mathematics. Towards the middle of the term, we will move on to addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We will revisit the methods the children have learnt previously and apply these skills to solving a range of problems. Please continue to encourage your child to practise their times tables at home!
