Teacher: Mrs Bryant
We will begin our term by looking at our Power of Reading text, Traction Man. We will be creating our own story boxes of an additional plot within the story which will lead onto writing a short narrative of our own.
We will also be exploring the characters thoughts and feelings through role play. Through the text we will broaden our understanding and use of appropriate vocabulary. Nearer the end of the term we will start looking at mixed up fairytales, identifying the similarities and differences between the different versions.
We will continue to build upon our number skills this term, comparing and ordering numbers and thinking carefully about the value of each digit within a number. We will continue to explore a range of written methods within addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. However, we will continue to use resources and practical activities to support our understanding of the methods. The children will be describing the properties of a range of 2D and 3D shapes using mathematical vocabulary. We will also be continuing with our problem solving this term, creating links in our learning through applying skills previously taught.
Your child could explore some of the Maths games on this website to consolidate their learning at home: https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/5-7-years/addition-and-subtraction
Learning Journey (cross curricular subjects)
Our Learning Journey this term is ‘Toys!’ We will be looking at toys from the past. The children will be ordering a range of toys, recognising changes and identifying differences between them.
Within Art we will be focusing on drawing and painting, therefore we will be exploring a range of techniques which will lead to drawing and painting a range of toys in the style of Andy Warhol.
Within Music we will be composing our own piece of music which is suitable for a baby mobile. We will be listening to a range of music used within toys, thinking carefully about the suitability of the sounds used. We will then compose, record and edit our own piece of music.
Please remember to hear your child read daily – 5 minutes can make such a difference! We have a reading passport display in the hall, please help your child's name move around the different Countries! Some children have completed their first journey...can your child catch up with them?!
Please find above some websites for your child to explore their maths skills further.
There are also many SPAG (spelling, punctuation and grammar) games to explore online, some can be found here - https://www.topmarks.co.uk/english-games/5-7-years/words-and-spelling
