Yellow Class

Teacher: Mrs Bryant

English

This term the children will be exploring the story of ‘Toby and the Great Fire of London!’ The book will be a great stimulus for some brilliant vocabulary, therefore we will be creating some fantastic fire poetry!  We will be working a lot on non-fiction this term, looking at information books, writing chronological reports, recounts and diary entries from the great Samuel Pepys!

We will also enjoy some Christmas writing, later on in the term.

Maths

The children will continue to practice their number bonds to 10 and 20 and their doubles and halves. We will also be working on our multiplication and division skills this term. We will begin to explore times-table rockstars and the children will be given a login for this so they can continue to enjoy this resource at home. We will also be looking at money, using our addition and subtraction skills from last term to help us solve a range of problems.

Learning Journey (cross curricular subjects)

Our Learning Journey this term is ‘The Great Fire of London!’  We will be making many cross curricular links.

Firstly, in history we will be finding out about the event, placing it on a timeline, comparing the 1666 to the present day, looking at different sources of information and exploring how it affected the future.

In music, we will be using our voices expressively to create songs and chants to describe the fire. We will then explore a range of instruments, selecting those we think create the atmosphere of the Great Fire of London.

In science, we are continuing to explore materials. We will be carrying out further investigations, thinking carefully about the materials of the houses in London during the time of the fire and comparing these to current day houses.

In DT, the children will be making emergency vehicles. We will be looking closely at the differences between the emergency vehicles in 1666 and 2015. The children will then create their own emergency vehicle with a purpose of their choice.

In geography we will be using maps to locate London on the map and finding some more information about our capital city.
