Teacher: Mrs Bryant
Our power of reading text this term will be ‘The Snail and the Whale’ by Julia Donaldson. The children will explore the setting, plot and characters within the picture book in detail. The children will have the opportunity to hear, learn and use a range of new vocabulary. The children will engage in many drama activities which will lead onto writing character recounts of the events within the story. The children will also be writing a short story of their own during the term based on the structure of ‘The Snail and the Whale’.
The children will continue to build upon a range of maths skills this term. At the beginning of the term we will further our understanding of multiplication and division. We will then move onto time, the children will be completing activities linked to telling the time to 5 minutes! To finish our term we will explore shape, this will include exploring 2D and 3D shapes, focusing on the correct vocabulary to name and describe them.
Learning Journey (cross curricular subjects)
Our Learning Journey this term is ‘Journeys’.
Our topic is linked closely to Geography, where we will be exploring a range of countries and how food can travel around the world. We will enjoy using the globe and the atlases to locate many different countries. We will then identify whether they are near to the equator, north or south poles.
Within Art we will be exploring how to use a range of materials creatively. The children will explore the technique of Batik.
At the end of the term we will create a world feast for us to enjoy. Within DT we will be looking at where our food comes from and how to prepare and make a variety of healthy dishes from around the world. I can't wait to see and taste what the children produce!
In computing, the children will be working in small groups to research a country of their choice. The children will use the internet to find out their information and will use Powerpoint to present their findings at the end of the term.
Please remember to hear your child read daily – it makes such a difference to your child’s reading.
A new homework sheet will be stuck into the children's homework books at the beginning of the term. Please ensure the books come into school each Monday. I love to see what the children are learning at home! Thank you to everyone who produced some fantastic and creative homework last term, the year 2 team were very impressed!
