Teacher: Mrs Bryant
Our power of reading text this term will be ‘The Snail and the Whale’ by Julia Donaldson. The children will explore the setting, plot and characters within the picture book in detail. The children will have the opportunity to hear, learn and use a range of new vocabulary. The children will engage in many drama activities which will lead onto writing character recounts of the events within the story. The children will also be writing a short story of their own during the term based on the structure of ‘The Snail and the Whale’.
The children will continue to build upon their number skills this term. We will be focusing on partitioning numbers into their tens and units and counting in 2’s, 3’s, 5’s and 10’s. The children will also be exploring addition and subtraction. We will begin to add together two 2 digit numbers and three 1 digit numbers. We will also learn about the relationship between addition and subtraction. Throughout the term the children will be exploring weight, mass and temperature. We will also look at statistics, which will include pictograms, block diagrams and tally charts.
